چکیده

A new realization of a finite element level set method for simulation of immiscible fluid flows is introduced and validated on numerical benchmarks. The new method involves a mixed discretization of the dependent variables, discretizing the flow variables with non-conforming RannacherTurek finite elements while keeping a simple first order conforming discretization of the level set field. A three step segregated solution approach is employed, first using a discrete projection method to decouple and compute the velocity and pressure separately, after which the level set field can be computed independently. The developed method is tested and validated on a static bubble test case and on a numerical rising bubble test case for which a very accurate benchmark solution has been established. The new approach is also compared against two commercial simulation codes, Ansys Fluent and Comsol Multiphysics, which shows that the developed method is a magnitude or more accurate and at the same time significantly faster than state of the art commercial codes.

Applying zoning method for numerical modeling of two immiscible fluid interface motion in an underwater tank using BEM

In this study, boundary element method was used to model sea wave propagation on a hemisphere shape under water tank and oil-water common surface oscillation in the tank. Also, kinematic and dynamic oundary conditions of free surface and common surface of oil and water were discritized by Finite difference method. There were some singularities in BEM method, which were removed by applying zonin...

Multigrid Methods for Finite Element Simulation of Two Phase Immiscible Flow in Heterogeneous Media

Multigrid methods are described for solving the pressure equation arising from a finite element discretization of the equations modeling the flow of two immiscible and in-compressible fluids in a heterogeneous porous medium. Comparisons are made between the performance of these methods and a preconditioned conjugate gradient algorithm by solving some two dimensional five spot problems on both h...

Numerical Simulation of Non-Newtonian Inelastic Flows in Channel based on Artificial Compressibility Method

In this study, inelastic constitutive modelling is considered for the simulation of shear-thinning fluids through a circular channel. Numerical solutions are presented for power-law inelastic model, considering axisymmetric Poiseuille flow through a channel. The numerical simulation of such fluid is performed by using the Galerkin finite element approach based on artificial compression method (...

On the Inf Sup Condition of Mixed Finite Element Formulations for Acoustic Fluids

The objective of this paper is to present a study of the solvability, stability and optimal error bounds of certain mixed finite element formulations for acoustic fluids. An analytical proof of the stability and optimal error bounds of a set of three-field mixed finite element discretizations is given, and the interrelationship between the inf–sup condition, including the numerical inf–sup test...
